2011 Summer Pennant

Last Sunday summer pennant concluded at Shepparton GC with Hill Top and Mooroopna GC's being victorious with a 3 /2 result in both matches.

In Section 1 Hill Top started on fire with a 5&4 then 5&3 results from their first two matches and it was Darryl Phillips and Peter Baird who won the deciding match 3&2 to ensure back to back flags for Hill Top.  Performance of the day went to Arthur Gledhill or as he used to be known to his junior mates "The Weak Grey Carp" from Hill Top who was only 5 over the card through 14 holes playing off his 18 handicap.

In Section 2 both Mooroopna and Kialla had two convincing wins each and thus it was left to the No1 pairings to decide the contest.  Mooroopna Club Captain Peter VanTiggelen and partner Brad O'Brien held their nerve against Jordy Geisler and Dick Hutchinson to win 2&1 and give Mooroopna the contest.

It was great to see 9 junior golfers represented in the two finals and judging by their performances each of the finalists have many more years of success to come.

Thanks go to each of the clubs for their hospitality during the series and to the course curators who presented the courses in fantastic condition.  Thanks also to Hill Top GC for stepping in at late notice to host the semi finals.

Northern GC Open. 2011

James Zappelli, Cobram Barooga Gc. James put in a great day to pick up the honors with a low finish. 137, 7 under the card. Terry Vogel stepped into second place with a solid 68 in the afternoon. Terry finished the day on 141. Ashley blake finished in the middle of the field on 154.

Box Hill GC Open. 2011

Ashley Blake, Shepparton GC. Ashley put this hand up for the Gv. Opening day with a 4 under, 67. At lunch the Gv was sitting well with Ash & Terry (68)1&2 at the top of the leadersboard. The afternoon went well for the Gv duo, Ash 66, Terry 68. All was looking comfortable until Tom Gowers, delivered his card to the scores, 63 for Tom, forcing a playoff. Ash & Tom tied on 133, 9 under.
The playoff went to the 3rd hole, with Tom placing a pitch to a tap in length. Unfortunate end to a terrific days golf for the young Shepparton player with a future which is going to be interesting to watch unfold.

A small note which was noticed whilst at Box Hill Gc, Sunday. The Gv players must like at course, we have collected the trophy 3 of the last 5 years, Ash almost made it 4 from 5. Vogel 2007, Lyle 2008, Dixon 2010.
Congratulations to the gvdga squad for a positive weekend.

Good golfing. The Spectator.

2010 GVDGA Senior Player of the Year Award

The Goulburn Valley District Golf Association would like to congratulate James Zappelli for winning the 2010 GVDGA Senior Player of the Year Award.

The award takes into account the number of events played by our senior district members, and their rankings in each event entered. In 2011, it is hoped to expand the award to other members of the GVDGA, in both Junior and Handicap divisions.

The aim of the award is to encourage members of each district club to enter events throughout our district, and the rest of the state.

Special thanks to Custom Golf who donated the prize of a set of GolfPride Multi-Compond grips (red and black).

Next year the GVDGA hopes to run a more formal trophy with a far larger
prize pool.

Congratulations to James, who's effort this year has be outstanding, and to
those who have made the effort this year to play more events and develop
their game.

A full run down of points is available on this link.

I wish you all the best for 2011.

Good Golfing
