Murray River Junior Masters

 Friday, January 01, 2016

Juniors compete well at Murray River Junior Masters.

The Goulburn Valley was well represented at the tournament with

Jamie Scapin      Mooroopna        Brandan Hosie          Numurkah

Jonty Jeffreys    Rich River          Joseph Thomas         Hill Top

Matt Miller         Hill Top            Max Wilson              Rich River

Gentle Cooper  Ky Parkland       Blair Christie             Rich River

Jackson Gentle Ky Parkland       Steffanie Vogel         Cobram/Barooga

All players put their best foot forward, with the tournament been scaled back from 72 holes to 54 due to the hot weather. Jamie had played some excellent golf on Saturday to be only a couple of shots off the lead with only 9 holes on Sunday to play. It all came down to the last hole with three players all equal, unfortunate for Jamie he bogeyed the final hole to lose by one shot.

Matt Miller was in great form with three nett scores 66, 68 and 70 to win the under 16 nett championship. Matt’s handicap of 12 might be a bit lower after a fine week on the golf courses.

Steffanie was the only girl playing for the Goulburn Valley, but put in an excellent finish to the tournament and once again in the top five leaders.

The juniors are now heading to Waverley and Churchill golf clubs jan 4, 5 and 6th for the Victoria Junior Masters and we wish them the best for that. The Shepparton/Mooroopna junior masters  is not far away and we should see a high representation at this tournament.

2015 Junior Country Regions & Kay Mahlook Shield

Back Row: Jackson Gentle Ky Parkland, Jonty Jeoffreys Rich River, Taylor Bicknell Kialla, Brandon Hosie Numurkah, Jamie Scapin Mooroopna, Garry Hosie Team Manager.

Front: Cooper Gentle Ky Parkland, James Bicknell Kialla, Joseph Thomas Hill Top and Jordan Bovalina Cobram.

Felicity Booth Team Manager, Olivia Cartwright Ky Parkland, Courtney Loader Rich River, Caitlyn Cartwright Ky Parkland & Kay Mahlook.

The final rounds of the Junior Country Regions & Kay Mahlook Shield were contested today under perfect playing conditions at both Heathcote and Kyneton Golf Clubs.

With a number of districts well within striking distance of the overnight leader in Goulburn Valley an enthralling final days play was destine to unfold. With the pressure of winning their maiden Junior Country Regions title on their shoulders Goulburn Valley held their composure this morning to capture victory in what was a nail biting finish. North Eastern applied the pressure all day to the eventual winners to only fall a mere two strokes short on 939 compared to Goulburn Valley’s 937.

Country Regions stronghold Ballarat were too good in the handicap section taking home the nett title on a team score of 837. There was even more success for Ballarat when Corey Haase successfully defended his individual gross title with rounds of 70 and 73. Peninsula’s Matthew Himbury blitzed the field in the individual handicap section when the 13 marker fired rounds of 67 and 68 to beat his handicap by seven.

Over at Kyneton in the B division, East Gippsland held the commanding position they cemented yesterday to take home the honours. The team finished with rounds of 494 and 486 for a 36-hole tally of 980 to ward off Murray Darling by a barnstorming 55 strokes. South Gippsland were awarded the handicap cup with a total of 881 while Levi Sclater and Charlie May took out the individual gross and nett prizes respectively.

Goulburn Valley were also triumphant in the girls section with top honours in the Kay Mahlook Shield. The trio of Olivia Cartwright, Caitlyn Cartwright and Courtney Loader finished four shots better than the overnight leaders on a score of plus 6.

Next year’s event will move to the beautiful Bright and Myrtleford Golf Clubs during February. Congratulations to all of the winners!

Amalgamation Update

 Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Amalgamation Update

As many of you are aware, there has been a joint committee of the Goulburn Valley District Golf Association and the Goulburn Valley Ladies Golf  Association, formed to draft a new constitution based on the amalgamation of the two bodies.

The committee have met many times with representatives of Golf Victoria and other organisations to examine the mechanics of the merger.

There are a number of hurdles in the process, the first being the GVDGA has never been incorporated, where the GVLGA have done so.

Another is the name. The Committee agreed that the GVDGA actually has many Murray River clubs as members, and so decided to suggest the new body be called the Goulburn Murray Golf Association. This is purely a suggestion and is still open for comment by member clubs.

If you would like to download the suggested constitution for information, please do so here

If you would like to give feedback, please send it to Amalgamation Committee Secretary

or go to the Amalgamation Forum

Once all member clubs of the GVDGA have agreed to the new constitution, formal meetings will need to be held to progress the amalgamation process.
