Christmas Message from the President GVDGA

 Friday, December 11, 2009

CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT PETER

Here we are just a few days from the most important day of the year.

Let me reflect on what has happened during the year. Firstly the introduction of the Website has been a fantastic hit featuring all our major events, pennant results, news items and coming events. Pages have been set up for a woman’s section along with juniors and veteran’s golf. We have been getting hits from all over Australia and overseas as well. We also had 1000 website cards printed and are currently distributing them as we move around the Clubs. We will also be looking at running a training session for those who are interested in updating the web from your own club with information. We will keep you posted on that.

An introduction of a Junior Golf Academy at Shepparton/ Mooroopna has also been well received. The Academy has accommodated approximately 20 players grouped into two sections. Our executive will be looking to streamline the structure in 2010.

Hopefully we should be able to have 2010 syllabus on the Web shortly so keep looking.

The Pennant series winter and summer which is underway now is keenly contested with the results online.

The greatest thrill in 2009 was the winning of the shield at Country Week. A great achievement! The shield was presented to the Annual Meeting of the Association by Kevin Jacques V.G.A Councillor. Kevin also outlined during the evening the proposed course rating and handicapping system that will commence in February 2010.

I had much pleasure in presenting retiring Captain Mike Keen with a Life Membership. Mike’s induction was supported by Tocumwal’s Graeme Sharp. Mike has been at the helm for the past ten years and on the executive for thirteen representing in his time at Hill Top and now Tocumwal. Also retiring was Cobram- Barooga’s Wayne Gould who has supported the executive as Vice President and on the committee over many years. I sincerely hope that both members find time to be involved in Goulburn Valley Golf at some stage. We will be looking for their support especially at Country Week.

We congratulate Terry Vogel and Ashley Umbers on their selection at State Level. More importantly Terry has given time to coordinate up and coming golfers in the district to compete at a higher level throughout the State.

We welcome two new members to the executive in Matt Jean (Rich River) and Jeremy Rath (Shepparton). They will be a great support for myself as President, John Love Secretary, Graeme Stevens Vice President, Geoff Devine Captain, Tennyson Blake Junior Coordinator and Steve Flory.

One could go on mentioning many other events and happenings etc however on behalf of the executive we wish all Golfers and their Families good health for the festive season and hope you see in a safe new year.
