Juniors compete well at Murray River Junior Masters.

The Goulburn Valley was well represented at the tournament with

Jamie Scapin      Mooroopna                        Brandan Hosie                 Numurkah

Jonty Jeffreys    Rich River                          Joseph Thomas                 Hill Top

Matt Miller         Hill Top                             Max Wilson                     Rich River

Gentle Cooper  Ky Parkland                        Blair Christie                    Rich River

Jackson Gentle Ky Parkland                        Steffanie Vogel                 Cobram/Barooga

All players put their best foot forward, with the tournament been scaled back from 72 holes to 54 due to the hot weather. Jamie had played some excellent golf on Saturday to be only a couple of shots off the lead with only 9 holes on Sunday to play. It all came down to the last hole with three players all equal, unfortunate for Jamie he bogeyed the final hole to lose by one shot.

Matt Miller was in great form with three nett scores 66, 68 and 70 to win the under 16 nett championship. Matt’s handicap of 12 might be a bit lower after a fine week on the golf courses.

Steffanie was the only girl playing for the Goulburn Valley, but put in an excellent finish to the tournament and once again in the top five leaders.

The juniors are now heading to Waverley and Churchill golf clubs jan 4, 5 and 6th for the Victoria Junior Masters and we wish them the best for that. The Shepparton/Mooroopna junior masters  is not far away and we should see a high representation at this tournament.

NEDGA Junior golf camp.

The GVDGA had 6 boys representing the district at the NEDGA junior camp in the first week of the June school holidays. It was over 4 days at the McCully Golf Resort, Yarrawonga.

Nick Giles,    Cobram
Matt Watson, Mooroopna
Aaron Booth, Numurkah
Matt McClean, Parkland
Zac Maskell, Parkland
Lach Thurston, Hilltop.

These are names to look out for in the coming years, will one of these young men maybe the next Ash Umbers, Terry Vogel or Jarrod Lyle. We are proud of the champs of the GVDGA, they all came through the junior programs of the district.

The Gvdga, fully funded the boys via the JUNIOR TRUST FUND.

State Championships, Luke puts his hand up, for the GV.

The GV had a 5 person squad at this year's Champs which was held on the 28th & 29th of June at the Yarra Yarra & Northern Golf Clubs.

Dylan Grandel. Numurkah
Ash Blake Shepparton
Lach Devine, Shepparton.
Kyle Michel, Shepparton
Luke Petherick, Mooroopna..

The Monday at Yarra Yarra was a test for the boys, cold, windy & fast greens. Luke & Ash handled the day well, Luke 153, Ash 158. Northern Golf Club was a little kinder on the weather front, the course was in good condition. Luke & Ash started on the 2nd & 3rd tees which placed both boys in the top 12 players.  77 &76 in the morning had them both heading up the leaders board. At lunch both were in the top 10. The afternoon round didn't start well for Ash, with dropped shots coming early. He closed the champs with 79 to finish 15th. Luke held his afternoon together to finish with 76. He finished 4th.
Dylan, Kyle & Lach had their first trip to the state Championships, at great experience that will place them in a stronger position next year.

The 5 boys did the GVDGA proud & thank you to the parents who made it a terrific 2 days in the big town.

Below is the team selected to represent the GVDGA in the Junior Country Teams Event at Heathcote on 14th & 15th August 2010. Each day nine players are required to play with the best seven scores of these nine each day counting towards the teams aggregate score. Last year the GVDGA came 3rd behind the powerful Geelong and Peninsula districts and we have high hopes that this talented young group could progress higher up the standings this year.

The squad has three new additions in 2010, these being Tyler Dunn and Alex Kydd (Ky Parkland), and Aidan Borthwick (Rich River). Luke Petherick from Mooroopna has been selected as Captain.

The GVDGA would like to congratulate these boys selected and we wish them well for the event in August.
