GV Veterans Golf Report:

Much improved weather conditions greeted the 73 veteran golfers at Kyabram Parkland on Monday 11 September. The course was presented in excellent condition and the greens were in superb nick. Congratulations to the grounds people who have contributed to the success as it was welcome relief from the cored and sanded greens that some of us experience at this time of year as clubs progress with their essential maintenance program. The Parkland ladies also won praise by adding apple-pie and ice-cream to the traditional lunch meal.

Winner in A-grade was Tony Papallo, Kialla, 39 stableford points. Runner-up was Doug Cox, Parkland with 38 points on count back. B-grade supremo was Gary Hopcraft, Hill Top, 41 pts from Ian Scurrah, Lockington, 40 pts. C grade winner with an outstanding score of 45 pts was Richard Maloney, Nathalia, from Ken Martin, Cosgrove, 37 pts on c/b. Richard reminded us that on his previous visit to Parkland he had failed to make 30 points (Ed: so this turn in form is unlikely to produce a continuing downward spiral in his handicap?)

Nearest-the-pin was contested on the 18th green and the A-grade winner was Tom McConchie, Parkland. B-grade winner went to Ian Scurrah, Lockington.  There was no winner in D-grade, prompting a suggestion that, for our next event, the target hole be move to one of shorter distance.

Golf Ball Winners: Tom Haigh, Richard Hutchinson, Leo Hartup, Lidsay Simms, Laurie Stewart, Alan Dalton, Tony Ciavarella, John Bray, Allan McGrath, Terry White, Ray Gourlay, Phil Cooper, Peter Hudgson, Bill Murphy, Alan Labas, Tony Lasini, Barry Webber.

Our planning for 2018 is progressing well with nearly all the clubs having already confirmed their respective dates for our syllabus.

The next Event will be the first round of the District Championship at Rich River (Moama), on 9th October 2017 with the GMCU our time-honoured championship sponsor.

GV Veterans Golf Report:

It was a cold but dry day that greeted the 48 golfers that gathered at Nagambie Golf Club on Monday 21 August. Because of recent inclement weather we were granted preferred lies and this reflected in some good scores being posted, although the C grade players may have suffered from the reduced run on the fairways.  The Nagambie ladies are renowned for the exceptional lunch they provide and the hot roast meal was again appreciated by all.

Winner in A grade was John McHale, Valley View (36 stableford points). Runner-up was Bob Dixon, Shepparton with 34 points. A count back was required to separate B grade players Neville Smith, Numukah and Rolf Weber, Mooroopna on 38 stableford points. C grade winners were Trevor Price, Parkland (32points) from Geoff Squires, Valley View with 31 points.

Nearest-the-pin contested on the 13th green went to John Fanning, Valley View (A-grade) John Welsh, Shepparton (B-grade) and Ken Martin, Cosgrove (C-grade).

Golf Ball Winners: Peter Barrette, John Fuller, Ron Smith, Richard Stockdale, Robert Oliver, Trevor Allen, Laurie Stewart, Harold Rayner, Bill Murphy, Vin Kanizay, Peter Giorchino, Barry Webber, Tony Lasini.

The next Event will be stableford at Kyabram Parklands, on 11th September 2017.
